Road Vehicle transport in NSW
The
transport of cars in NSW falls into two categories:
NEW vehicles were
transported from interstate manufacturing plants to Enfield Yard. Victoria had Ford
and Mitsubishi, whilst South Australia had Holden and Toyota plants. Car
carriers for South Australia were bogie exchanged at Albury in both directions,
whilst plants in Victoria had standard gauge siding access. In Enfield Yard,
the cars were unloaded and moved to holding yards and dealerships by truck.
Private cars could be transfered on ‘Motorail’ services
attached to long distance passenger trains. Major Motorail
docks were located at Central, Murwillumbah, Goobang Jct(Parkes)
and Albury.
