NPEF Clinker Wagon

With the aging fleet of steel clinker wagons taking their toll on
operations, it was decided to convert 27 surplus ‘low capacity’ NHTF coal
hoppers to replace them (these hoppers became surplus due to the introduction
of newer NHHF coal hoppers). The hoppers were fitted with a roof, which has 3
small square hatches and a low set railing around the perimeter. The design of
the roof also minimizes dust whilst the train is in transit.

They were
not repainted when modified. They retained their all over aluminum Silver with
blue ends & black bogies

painted all over light blue/Grey some with PacNat emblems
Operation:
The rake operates shuttles between
the Berrima and Maldon BCSC cement works. They also operated to Kooragang Blue
Circle Cement Works.

Further Modifications:
Beginning in 2007 hoppers started
under going overhauls at Varley Engineering based at Carrington. During these
overhauls discharge door modifications were carried out and the ‘B’ end V hoods
were removed to make way for new ground-operated pneumatic roof hatch
equipment.
Modelling in HO:
- There
are no models available but they could be kitbashed from the AR Kits NHHF
hopper.
