NGRX  ‘Sunrice’ Rice Hopper

            These hoppers are converted WHX Tulloch type 2 wheat hoppers in 1990-91. They were used to transport rice from the ‘Sunrice’ plant at Griffith to the Kellogg’s Cereal plant at Botany. They were replaced in this traffic by VHLY 100t FA rice hoppers when they took up running the contact on 2003.

 

Date Introduced:           1991

 

Running Numbers:        12 wagons were converted from the following,

 

            Version 1 (plain chassis rail) – 30702H, 30703Q, 30705L, 30720F, 30727W, 30736V.

            Version 2 (drop chassis rail) – 30577C, 30630G, 30635F, 30687R, 30695H.

 

Length: 14.3m              Tare:    17t                   Gross: 73t                               

 

Bogies: Any bogie exchangeable type, although no longer exchanged.

Modifications:

-                     No modifications were made to the wheat hopper to carry rice. However the hopper is pneumatically unloaded with the fitting of a pressure nozzle at each end bulkhead.

Colour Schemes:

            No special liveries were designed for this wagon, however 2 small ‘Sunrice’ logo stickers are attached to the hopper sides.

 

Modelling in HO:

-                     AR Kits have a NGRX kit available.
